Air quality/ Environmental Monitoring Officer (rate: £20 – 34 LTD/ hr based on experience), Start date: asap for up to 6 months.
We are looking for an officer to join our Environmental Monitoring team responsible for controlling air and land pollution in Brent.
You will be responsible for monitoring and assessing air quality throughout the borough. This will involve undertaking regular site visits, data management and maintenance and calibration of air monitoring equipment. The successful candidate will be required to apply their knowledge of current UK air quality legislation to ensure that the Council complies with national standards. You will be responsible for inspecting industrial processes in order to control air pollution.
You will ensure that operators are compliant with current legislation and demonstrate that you have the expertise and knowledge to undertake enforcement action where necessary. You will also be expected to respond to and investigate pollution incidents as they arise. Enthusiasm, good communication skills and the ability to work independently are also important for this role.
Applicants must;
Hold a qualification in at least one science subject, hold a good first degree, and possess good IT skills (air quality mapping / monitoring a distinct advantage)
Demonstrate their understanding of local air quality management issues.
Have current knowledge of the environmental impacts and regulation of industrial processes in a local authority context
Starting rate will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
