Job Title:        Environmental Health Officer (Public Health)

 

1 Enforce a range of environmental health legislation including housing, pollution, nuisance law, pest control and noise.

 

2. Provide professional support in accordance with the Council’s corporate objectives, statutory responsibilities and environmental policies.

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

 

1.         To carry out inspections, sampling, investigations and other such duties to enforce housing, pollution, nuisance law, pest control and noise to achieve the objectives of the Service.

 

2.         To investigate complaints, both informally and formally, and give professional advice to complainants, commerce and industry.

 

3.         Undertake surveys and research related to the work of the Service.

 

4.         To prepare and deal with correspondence, licences, briefs, plans and other documents, to originate reports and prepare and evaluate statistics.

 

5.         To give evidence at legal proceedings, quasi-judicial meetings and other hearings.

 

6.         To be responsible for the use of computers and the maintenance of all necessary records and administration in connection with the duties of the post.

 

7.         To be responsible for equipment and protective clothing available to assist in the duties of the post.

 

8.         To undertake the training and development of staff or official visitors with regard to the functions and duties of the Environmental Health Service.

 

9.         To liaise with officers within the Service and other departments of the Council, outside organisations, businesses and other persons in order to properly perform the duties of the post.

 

10.       To assist in the preparation and execution of publicity, campaigns and educational work relating to public health

 

11.       To assist at meetings, working parties, public meetings, exhibitions or publicity demonstrations.

 

12.       To work in close collaboration with other members of staff in the Service to assist in motivating and advising them so that the most effective work output is achieved.

 

13.       Contribute to the planning and implementation of the Public Health Section's operational policy and programmes.

  

14.       The postholder to familiarise themselves with changes in legislation, policies, attitudes and techniques

 

15.       Attend seminars, workplace training and courses in order to maintain adequate levels of knowledge in order to achieve business needs.

 

16.       Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development in line with business needs.

 

17.       Take part in out of hours activities, as required, for which an extra payment will be made.

 

18.       Guide the activities of allocated staff to ensure agreed objectives and operational programmes are met.

 

General

 

1.         Comply with Health and Safety Regulations associated with your employment

 

2.         You may be required to work in any one of the Council’s sites.

4.         Demonstrate a flexible approach in the delivery of work within the service cluster. Consequently, the post holder may be required to perform duties not specifically identified in the Job Profile but which are in line with the general responsibilities of the post.

This is a part time role and the client would prefer the successful candidate to work on Thursday and Friday
