We are looking for a food qualified Trading Standards Officer or Environmental Health Officer to conduct a series of food inspections for a Welsh Trading Standards Department

About the role:

To assist the Trading Standards Service in providing the full range of its functions in accordance with relevant objectives, policies and procedures.

About you:

•           Ideally, you will bring with you knowledge and experience of full range of Trading Standards legislation and enforcement, including Food Standards, Feed Hygiene and Product Safety.

•           You will be organised, accurate and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative.

•           You may have an appropriate professional qualification or experience in a related field. You will be adaptable and organised, with an eye for detail and capable of working under pressure.

•           You must be willing to carry out duties at flexible times including occasional evenings/ weekends.

•           Officers should ideally have previous experience of working in a local authority environment and have knowledge of the complete range of local authority Trading Standards legislation and experience of working in a statutory/regulatory role.

What you will do:

•           Undertake routine inspections and respond to complaints and enquiries relating to Trading Standards activities and support other officers in the team with this work and their development.

•           Provide advice and assistance to businesses

•           Work closely with other Council departments, government agencies, external partners and members of the public.

•           Apply relevant legislation and guidance and undertake investigations or enforcement as appropriate. Prepare case files for prosecution, attend court / tribunals / hearings as required.
