Job Description Senior Trading Standards Officer
We are recruiting on behalf of our west midlands local authority client for a Senior Trading Standards Officer. The jobholder is responsible for taking lead responsibility on the interpretation and implementation of appropriate legislation, codes of practice and policies as per specialist area, providing technical support to officers where required.
Main Duties:
To act as a Senior Enforcement Officer on all matters relating to the work of the Citizen & Consumer Protection Team.
To write clear and concise reports and correspondence in relation to performance and the activity and future developments within a given specialist and geographical area.
To provide case direction, in line with own specialism, to officers and ensure effective caseload management is in place.
To develop an understanding of local priorities, needs and demands for a given specialism within a defined geographical area, and to understand and interpret intelligence and information to support a planned response to how priorities, needs and demands may change in future.
To support officers to assess situations, in line with own specialism, and make decisions on further action or the giving of advice as required based on their final assessment
To allocate and monitor workloads appropriately following an assessment of complaints and information received.
To be the first point of escalation where businesses and members of the public may have concerns about the nature and delivery of frontline services from the team.
To oversee the planning and implementation of a schedule of inspections, investigations on regulated organisations, in line with own specialism, which require completion by the team.
To lead on the establishment and maintenance of productive working relationships with colleagues across various specialisms to provide a seamless and co-ordinated approach to the delivery of services that protect people living in, working in, and visiting the borough.
To exchange information with other teams within the service area to solve individual and joint problems to support the making of effective a co-ordinated decisions across the service area.
To participate in joined up and coordinated activity with other teams within the service area as directed to support the achievement of the overall aims and aspirations of the wider service area.
Essential Requirements:
Experience and evidence of working in a similar role.
Competent in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Word.
Ability to work in a busy and challenging environment.
Highly organised and understand the importance of attention to detail.
Knowledge of legislation, codes of practice and policies as per specialist area
